The Vampire Diaries - The Complete Season

The Vampire Diaries is a television series based on the book series of the same name by L. J. Smith. It follows Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who falls in love with Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and happens to be a vampire. Things get complicated when a love triangle forms between Stefan, Elena and Stefan's brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) who is also a vampire. To complicate matters even further Elena looks like Katherine Pierce who is the vampire that sired the Salvatore brothers.

The show is set in Mystic Falls, Virginia; a town full of supernatural history. The town is run by descendants of the original founding families who make up a founder's council who guard the town from vampires and other supernatural beings, this is made complicated as some of these beings are members of the founder's council.

The series has a lot of twists and turns, and while many shows take a good part of their first season to come together, by the third or fourth episode the show found it's voice.

There are a good amount of extras in this box set. For anyone who hasn't read the Vampire Diaries the first book is included as an audio book for your listening pleasure. There's a single commentary (the pilot) with the producers, but no cast members, and the trio spoil some big plot points that occur later in the season, which is slightly disappointing. Also included are deleted scenes, a behind the scenes featurette which covers all aspects of the show, webisodes, a featurette dedicated to the casting process (including how they cast a brunette to play Elena who's blonde in the books) a gag reel and a featurette dedicated to the series loyal fan base.
