Don't Forget: Rick Perry, Energy Sec., was an Early 'DWTS' Boot

[Editor's note: This story was originally published on Sept. 29, a day after Rick Perry was the second contestant eliminated from the ABC reality show "Dancing with the Stars." In the wake of President-elect Donald Trump naming the former Texas governor the new Secretary of Energy, we should not forget Perry's performance on the show and his down-right awful dances.]

Just when you thought you had a reason to watch "Dancing With the Stars"...

I haven't watched the ABC competition show in years, but I did tune in for the 23rd season specifically to watch failed GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry. Unsurprisingly Perry has been delivering gold, making a complete fool of himself with his Texas-themed dances.

Though the former Texas governor had the lowest score during the first elimination round on "DWTS," and was destined to go home, he managed to squeak by and viewers saw Disney actor Jake T. Austin get the boot instead.

But Perry, who again earned the lowest score, saw a 2012 flashback this week and was the second celeb to go home on the Tuesday night elimination show, ABC News reports.

"I have no regrets," Perry, who may not have watched his very embarrassing performances, told ABC News after he was booted. "Man, I walked into this not knowing how to dance. This has been a great experience for me, and one that I will not ever forget."

Perry, who has a terrible record with LGBT issues and compared being gay to alcoholism in 2014, commented on his "unlikely bromance with fellow Texan Vanilla Ice," ABC News writes.

"I didn't even know who Vanilla Ice was when we looked at the list of folks who were going to be dancers," he told "Good Morning America" Wednesday. "He was kind of one that jumped out at me as probably having the least amount of comparison, if you will, as far as life experiences, but what I found out is that we had a lot of life experiences alike."

"And we ended up making a friendship that will now last the rest of my lifetime," Perry said of the '90s rapper.
