Details have emerged surrounding the text communications between Republican Oklahoma State Senator Ralph Shortey and a teenage boy with whom he was caught in a motel last week.

According to a report from The Oklahoman, Shortey, 35, and the teen admitted to police they had been engaging in conversations "pertaining to sexual activities in exchange for money."

Text conversations between Shortey and the boy (who has an alleged history of soliciting himself for sex) that appeared on the teen's Kindle were taken into evidence.

"Is there anything I can help you do some cash?" a text from Shortey reportedly read. "How much you needing?"

"I need money for spring break," the boy wrote.

Shortey reportedly asked the teen if he "would be interested in 'sexual' stuff?"

Police were notified by the teen's father, who was tipped off by the boy's girlfriend. The girlfriend told cops the teen said he was "going to get paid tonight." The Oklahoman notes she feared he might be "involved in illegal drugs."

When police came into the motel room Shortey rented for the alleged tryst with the teen, they noted the room reeked of "raw marijuana." An open package of condoms and lube were located in a backpack.

KOCO reported Wednesday Shortey has been charged with three felony counts, including engaging in child prostitution, engaging in prostitution within 1,000 feet of a church, and transporting a minor for prostitution/lewdness.
